About the town

St. Johnsbury, Vermont.

St. Johnsbury, known locally as St. J, is the county seat of Caledonia County and the largest town in the Northeast Kingdom. It grew up where the Passumpsic, Moose and Sleepers rivers come together, and the Fairbanks family, whose platform scales made the town an industrial name, left behind a brick downtown and handsome Victorian landmarks.

Today it is the region's main hub for shopping and services, and the likeliest place in the Kingdom to find several restaurants within walking distance. Visitors come for the Fairbanks Museum and Planetarium, the art gallery and library at the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, maple tastings at Maple Grove Farms and the hillside trails of Dog Mountain. Fall color around town is a highlight.
