About the town

Barnet, Vermont.

Barnet sits in the southeast corner of Caledonia County, where the Passumpsic River meets the Connecticut River along the New Hampshire line. Interstate 91 and U.S. Route 5 run through town, yet its villages, including Barnet, McIndoe Falls, Passumpsic and West Barnet, keep a quiet, old New England feel.

Summer visitors head for Harvey's Lake, where the town runs a public beach, while fall brings strong foliage across the river valleys and the slopes of Roy Mountain. Barnet was settled early on by Scottish families, and it is also home to Karmê Chöling, a long-running Buddhist meditation retreat. St. Johnsbury is just a short drive north for more dining options.
