About the town

Hardwick, Vermont.

Hardwick is a working town on the Lamoille River at the western edge of Caledonia County, with three villages: Hardwick, East Hardwick and Mackville. A little over a century ago it was a busy granite center, finishing stone from nearby quarries for buildings around the country, and its historic downtown still reflects that era.

Today Hardwick is known as a hub for local food and farming, with a farmers market, a food co-op and groups that support small food businesses. Routes 14, 15 and 16 meet here, and the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail and the volunteer-run Hardwick Trails offer walking, biking and skiing. It is a natural crossroads for exploring Greensboro, Craftsbury and the farm country around them.
