About the town

Craftsbury, Vermont.

Craftsbury spreads across a high plateau in Orleans County and holds four villages: Craftsbury, Craftsbury Common, East Craftsbury and Mill Village. Craftsbury Common is the classic picture, a broad green surrounded by white clapboard buildings with long views over the hills. Several ponds dot the town, including Great Hosmer Pond and Lake Eligo, which it shares with Greensboro.

The Craftsbury Outdoor Center draws rowers in summer and cross-country skiers in winter, and the Craftsbury Historical Society runs the Babcock House Museum on the Common. Farming still shapes the landscape, so expect open fields, farm stands and quiet back roads. Craftsbury pairs nicely with nearby Greensboro and Hardwick for a day of eating and exploring.
