About the town

Glover, Vermont.

Glover is a hilly Orleans County town with two villages, Glover and West Glover, and a scattering of ponds that includes Shadow Lake, Parker Pond and Sweeney Pond. The Black Hills rise in the south of town, and several rivers start their journeys here.

Glover is best known as the home of Bread and Puppet Theater, whose giant puppets, summer shows and free sourdough bread have drawn visitors for decades, along with a museum full of puppets. The town also has a dramatic bit of history: in 1810 Long Pond burst through its banks and drained down the Barton River valley, leaving behind what is now called Runaway Pond. Summer is the liveliest season, with lake days and outdoor performances.
