About the town

Albany, Vermont.

Albany is a small, hilly farming town in western Orleans County, strung along Vermont Route 14 as it follows the Black River north toward Lake Memphremagog. The village of Albany is the main hub, with the smaller settlements of Albany Center, East Albany and South Albany scattered across the surrounding countryside.

This is a place for back roads and open views rather than busy main streets. Several ponds dot the town, including part of Great Hosmer Pond, and the rolling fields turn bright with color each fall. Before the Civil War, a local minister helped freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad. Today Albany makes a peaceful stop on a scenic drive between Craftsbury and Newport.
