About the town

Coventry, Vermont.

Coventry is a small Orleans County town just south of Newport, where the Black River winds northeast toward the South Bay of Lake Memphremagog. The village sits in the southern part of town, and much of the land along the lower river is protected wetland and floodplain forest in the South Bay Wildlife Management Area, a quiet place for paddling and birding.

The town is home to the Newport State Airport, which hosted Phish's two-day festival in 2004 and drew roughly 65,000 people, briefly making Coventry the most crowded place in Vermont. These days it is a peaceful stop on the way to Newport's lakefront, with farmland, river views and plenty of fall color on every side.
