About the town

Westmore, Vermont.

Westmore is the least populated town in Orleans County, and nearly everything here revolves around Lake Willoughby. The long, deep lake was carved by glaciers and sits between the sheer rock faces of Mount Pisgah and Mount Hor, forming a dramatic notch in the hills. The cliffs are a National Natural Landmark and have hosted nesting peregrine falcons.

The town's one small village clusters along the lakeshore, with homes and cottages close to the water. Willoughby State Forest offers hiking trails up both mountains, and Sentinel Rock State Park adds wide views over the lake. Summer means swimming and boating, while fall color on the cliffs draws photographers. Dining choices in town are limited, so plan ahead.
