About the town
Newark, Vermont.
Newark sits at the northern tip of Caledonia County, a hilly, lightly settled town of farms, ponds and woods between Burke and Island Pond. Vermont Route 114 crosses the town on its way between Lyndonville and Island Pond, and Route 5A clips its western corner on the way to Lake Willoughby.
Newark Street and Newark Hollow are the main settlements. The Newark Street Union Meeting House, built in 1862 and once shared by three congregations, still hosts community gatherings and concerts. Newark Pond offers a quiet spot on the water, and the surrounding backroads are lovely in fall. With few businesses in town, a visit here pairs naturally with meals in Lyndonville, East Burke or Island Pond.
