About the town

Lunenburg, Vermont.

Lunenburg stretches along the Connecticut River in southern Essex County, looking across the water to Lancaster, New Hampshire. It is the most populous town in Essex County, with two main villages, Lunenburg and Gilman, plus the hamlets of South Lunenburg and Mill Village.

The hilltop common in Lunenburg village is the heart of town, and local groups have worked for years to restore the historic church and buildings at its top. Neal Pond, north of the village, is the largest body of water in town, and several brooks tumble down to the river. Robert Frost's poem "The Mountain" is set in a town called Lunenburg, and many believe this is the place that inspired it. Autumn color across the valley is a real treat.
