About the town

Groton, Vermont.

Groton sits in the southwest corner of Caledonia County, where the Wells River begins its run toward the Connecticut River. The village lies in the southeast corner of town along U.S. Route 302, a quiet main street with homes, a white church and the town hall.

The big draw is Groton State Forest, which covers much of the western part of town and holds a string of ponds and state parks for camping, swimming, paddling and hiking. Signal Mountain, the highest point in town, rises near the southwest corner. Fall brings bright color to the wooded hills, and in summer the lakes make Groton an easy outdoor stop on the road between Barre and the Connecticut River valley.
