About the town

Bloomfield, Vermont.

Bloomfield is a tiny, heavily forested town on the Connecticut River in northeastern Essex County. Its small settlement sits where the Nulhegan River pours into the Connecticut, linked by bridge to North Stratford, New Hampshire. Vermont Route 102 follows the river north toward Colebrook, and Route 105 climbs west along the Nulhegan toward Island Pond.

This is true North Woods country, with high wooded ridges, wetlands and logging roads, and the nearby Nulhegan Basin lands of the Silvio O. Conte refuge are known for moose and birding. Bloomfield also holds a chilly claim to fame: in December 1933 it hit 50 degrees below zero, a New England record. Pack a lunch, since services here are very limited.
